This work addresses the way people interact with their environments. These are paintings of moments. Some of them are small, intimate spaces while others are large, flat sections of walls. I take time to absorb information about the rooms. It is important to find interesting parts of spaces, especially if they are not immediately noticed. The larger these hidden passages are, the more exciting they are when discovered.

In these paintings I use shadows, value contrast, and the angular features of rooms as metaphor for things known and things unknown about an object or environment. Some of the paintings display a sense of abandonment or a sense of longing. Some show history of use and the purposefulness of a thing. The through-line is the appreciation of space and the history conveyed by the smallest parts.
